This week I have been working on which direction to take my designs. I have a series of patterns I am really pleased with and have had a selection of fabric samples and Giclee prints produced. It is fantastic to see them taking on a life of their own and I am really impressed with the print studio and manufacturers I have used. After deliberation between products, I am hoping to have cushion covers made and am in the process of getting to grips with the manufacturing process. Spot colour or full colour? Screen or digital? Cotton drill or canvas? My list of questions and decisions is getting longer by the day but I am enjoying learning about this element of the pattern design business. I was inspired by a recent manufacturing video series run by the Rachael Taylor Studio and the Make It In Design team. It spurred me on to start to imagine my work actually becoming what it was designed to do and appear on a surface other than my computer screen.
So for now, it is back to the price lists, colour swatches and material samples, watch this space!
